The 2010 Oscar Pinot Noir comes from our small family vineyard located in the Carneros region of Sonoma. The grapes for this wine are meticulously farmed by organic guru Phil Coturri and expert crew. The 2010 season was our very first vintage of Pinot Noir off of our vineyards in the Carneros region. The 2010 vintage we feel brought on a perfect growing season for these young vines, and the cool climate benefited their juvenile nature. Our southern Carneros location, allowed us to mature the grapes slowly and evenly developing tannin and color in the skins. Our goal is to let the vineyard showcase what Pinot Noir can do in a cool California climate.
We hand pick and sort our fruit to optimize flavor in the vineyard. The grapes are brought to the winery and gently destemmed directly into small fermentation bins. The Pinot Noir is kept cool and reductive with dry ice for several days. We ferment the wine slow initially, and slowly allow the temperatures to rise. The wine is aggressively punched down throughout fermentation, with the focus of extracting all the elements that the vineyard gave us this year. Our Pinot Noir is aged in barrel for approximately 8 months, and bottled youthful to keep the fruit vibrant.
