Tasting Notes

The Vineyard

The 2010 Edina Chardonnay comes from our small family vineyard located in the Carneros region of Sonoma.  The grapes for this wine are meticulously farmed by organic guru Phil Coturri and expert crew.  The 2010 season was a cool vintage with mild heat spikes throughout.  Our southern Carneros location, allowed us to mature the grapes slowly and evenly.  Our goal in the vineyard is to let the natural flavor of the Chardonnay shine, and the acidity in our wines tend toward a northern Chablis style of food friendly high acidity, mouthfeel, and balanced flavors.

The Winemaking

We hand pick and sort our fruit to optimize flavor in the vineyard.  The grapes are brought to the winery extremely clean, where they undergo a second sorting.  They are whole cluster pressed gently, and we keep the press fractions separate.  The wine is partially fermented in tank very cool allowing for the natural esters to remain and to retain as much fruit as possible.  We finish the wine in barrel and stainless drum allowing for full lees contact and fractional barrel fermentation.  The wine is aged on the lees and stirred bi-monthly.  We bottle after 8 months aging to retain the freshness and brightness our vineyard offers.

Winemaker’s Comments:
"Our 2010 Edina Chardonnay has aromas of lemon, pear, vanilla, and floral elements.  There are hints of pineapple and papaya adding an exotic edge and displaying the complexity of this wine.  The mouthfeel is extremely balanced, with good mid-palate viscosity and engaging acidity to the finish.  There are flavors of apple, lemon, caramel and pear.  This wine is showing great now, but will complex with age."
