Our Family

Stars and Freckles is a family owned and operated wine business founded in 2010.

Our family has a long history in Northern California agriculture.   Immigrants from Ireland, farming the land goes back multiple generations of large agricultural crops.  We learned the value of hard work and the challenges that come with wind, frost, and nature. Northern California soil is in our blood.  We respect the land and focus on sustainable farming.

Known as the young ones, we learned how to drive tractor before we could legally drive a car.  We recently heard it through the grapevine that Americans love to drink wine.  Good thing we work hard to produce wine we want to drink.  We hope you love it as much as we do.

Stars and Freckles is inspired by these generations of family.  We pour our family’s love into each bottle.

Chief Vino Officer

Melody is at the heart of Stars and Freckles. Melody’s passions are focused on growing quality fruit and transforming it into pure beauty in a bottle. She is responsible for pretty much everything from selection of fruit to winemaking to sales.  Melody pours her love into all aspects of the business. Her approach is centered around good farming practices, engineering experimentation, and a strong family tradition.

Melody was raised in Chico, CA. She is an engineer by training and is employed by a prominent Internet company. When she is not working on wine for Stars and Freckles or her day job in engineering, she is an active mom and runner.  Melody graduated from UC Berkeley.  Go Bears.

Chief Vino Purveyor

Bryan is selflessly devoted to our customers. Bryan served as an active duty Marine for four years. He is committed to ensuring fellow Americans have a memorable wine experience. We are proud of his and all other military personnel serving our country.

Bryan further expanded his understanding of wine near Oregon’s Willamette Valley while earning his degree from the University of Oregon.  Go Ducks!

Chief Vino Technologist

Cristen ensures Stars and Freckles runs smoothly and is responsible for all online channels as well as sales and marketing operations.  She studied computer graphics at CSU Chico which gave her the base for working in the tech industry as a developer for many years.

Cristen is responsible for keeping all of our thirsty friends' glasses full and cellars stocked. She is the family dance instructor leading our constant dance parties. Go… Wine?

Chief Grape Curator

Bruce is the winemaking genius behind Stars and Freckles. He works closely with Melody to produce a wine they both want to drink.

Bruce Devlin was born in San Jose, California, but his birth certificate might as well been a passport. Bruce's first real experience with wine and wine making was in 1994, when he went to Germany with a student work internship program working in the Pfalz at Weingut Reichsrat von Buhl. After returning to the U.S. he obtained a degree from the University of California at Davis in Fermentation Science. While at Davis, Bruce worked for Lagier-Meredith vineyards part time. He worked directly with the owner to establish and maintain an ultra-premium Mt. Veeder Syrah program. Outside of studies he managed a virus research vineyard on the campus at U.C. Davis, and conducted studies that were eventually published in the American Journal of Enology and Viticulture.

After graduating in 1997, Bruce worked in Sonoma County at Geyser Peak Winery. He decided to gain experience with an international perspective. He spent the 1998 Southern Hemisphere harvest working for Boschendal Wine Estates in South Africa and the 1998 Northern Hemisphere harvest working for Weingut Louis Guntrum in Rheinhessen, Germany. The 1999 vintage was spent working for Tatachilla Winery in McLaren Vale, South Australia.

Bruce returned to the U .S. in the summer of 1999 and began working for Ballentine Vineyards. His background brings both old world and new world style to handcraft wines specific to each variety and vineyard site. Bruce also owns and operates Three Clicks Wines with his wife, Danielle Cyrot.
